Google has announced a significant update to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) monetization policies, which went into effect on July 15, 2025. This change directly targets what YouTube deems “mass-produced” and “repetitious” content, a move that could demonetize thousands of low-effort channels.
In an update on its official support website, YouTube explained the change: “In order to monetize as part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube has always required creators to upload ‘original’ and ‘authentic’ content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube is updating our guidelines to better identify mass-produced and repetitious content.”
Who is This New Policy Targeting?

This new policy is a direct response to the explosion of low-effort content, often facilitated by AI tools and copy-paste tactics. Channels most at risk of demonetization include:
- AI-Generated Videos: Channels that bulk-upload videos created entirely by AI with little to no human modification or commentary.
- Copy-Paste/Template Content: Videos that are nearly identical, using the same templates or assets with only minor changes (e.g., text-to-speech “top 10” lists or repurposed trivia content).
- Low-Effort Reaction Content: While not all reaction content is affected, the policy likely targets channels where the creator adds minimal commentary or simply re-uploads another person’s content with their face in the corner, adding no significant transformative value.
While YouTube did not detail every scenario, the update aims to differentiate between authentic creation and low-quality “content farming.”
This policy tightening follows another recent update to YouTube’s live-streaming rules, which restricted users under the age of 16 from streaming live on the platform alone, requiring an adult to be present.
