Following the massive controversy and class-action lawsuits over the shutdown of the original The Crew<\/em> servers, Ubisoft has taken a different route with the franchise’s sequel. During the latest “The Crew Showcase,” Ubisoft Ivory Tower announced that an update for The Crew 2<\/em> was available today, October 16, introducing the long-awaited offline “Hybrid Mode.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feature, which was “shadow-dropped” in today’s update, was first announced in September 2024, with public testing beginning in April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You Can Now Play The Crew 2 Without an Internet Connection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In a new official blog post, the developers explained that players can now switch between the original online experience and the new offline Hybrid Mode, allowing them to “dive into the adrenaline of racing without an internet connection.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a landmark victory for players and game preservation advocates who heavily criticized Ubisoft for making the original The Crew<\/em> completely unplayable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, given that The Crew 2<\/em> was fundamentally designed as an online-multiplayer experience, the new offline mode comes with some expected limitations. Features that require a connection, such as all multiplayer modes, global rankings, and livery sharing, will be unavailable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The developers also clarified that progression will be separate; any vehicles or achievements acquired while offline will not<\/strong> carry over to the online mode. A dedicated article is expected soon to detail how players will manage their new offline save files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the developers called this update a “major milestone in our commitment to ensuring long-term access to The Crew 2 for all players.\u201d This new commitment stands in stark contrast to the company’s previous stance during the original game’s lawsuit, where Ubisoft representatives doubled down on the idea that players do not truly own their digital game purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
