The puzzle of James Gunn’s new DC Universe (DCU) has finally found one of its most crucial pieces. After months of quiet speculation, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Christina Hodson has been hired to pen the script for “Batman: The Brave and the Bold.”
Hodson is no stranger to Gotham City. She was the mind behind Birds of Prey (2020) and The Flash (2023), in addition to writing a Batman Beyond script that, according to industry legends, was highly praised by executives before being shelved. Now, she is tasked with introducing the official Dark Knight of the new shared universe.
Father, Son, and Assassin
Unlike the solitary, detective-driven approach of Robert Pattinson (who resides under the Elseworlds banner), The Brave and the Bold will focus on the dysfunctional “Bat-Family.” The plot will introduce Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s biological son raised by the League of Assassins. It is a story of complex fatherhood, where Robin is a lethal pre-teen with a twisted moral compass.
The “Two Batmans” Strategy
Why the delay? Sources indicate DC Studios is taking a “cautious approach.” The studio wants to give Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II room to breathe. The priority is to ensure audiences aren’t confused and that the tone of The Brave and the Bold is visually and thematically distinct from Pattinson’s “noir” version.
The Muschietti Factor
Andy Muschietti (It, The Flash) remains attached as director, but his schedule is a complicating factor. The filmmaker is riding high after the massive success of the Welcome to Derry series (HBO), which is already moving toward a second season. DC seems willing to wait as long as necessary to get the perfect script and the director available, avoiding the rush that doomed the old DCEU.
