The convergence of Hollywood blockbusters and high-end gaming continues to accelerate. Lionsgate has officially confirmed that AAA video games based on two of its most iconic franchises, John Wick and Saw, are currently in production. The announcement came directly from Adam Fogelson, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, during the company’s latest earnings call.

The Corporate Vision

Fogelson’s comments signal a strategic shift. The studio is no longer just looking for promotional tie-ins, but rather substantial entries into the gaming market:

“Our AAA game opportunities and other initiatives in the gaming segment involving John Wick, Saw, and some other properties that we will announce soon have been garnering increasing interest… We continue to move down the road and believe that, in the aggregate, this will represent a significant financial addition in the coming years.”

Market Test: Successful Crossovers

It is worth noting that both franchises are already familiar faces in the gaming universe, but always as guests. John Wick became a digital pop culture icon with his famous skin in Fortnite and as a playable character in Payday 2. Meanwhile, the macabre universe of Saw found a perfect home in the asymmetrical horror of Dead by Daylight, where “The Pig” is a fan favorite, in addition to recent appearances in Call of Duty.

These collaborations served as an excellent “market test,” proving the appeal of these brands to the gaming audience. However, today’s confirmation changes the game: we are no longer talking about cameos or DLCs, but complete, narrative, and immersive experiences developed specifically for these IPs.

What Does “AAA” Mean?

The “AAA” classification is the icing on the cake. It indicates multimillion-dollar investments and cutting-edge production. While a dedicated John Wick game suggests the definitive translation of “gun-fu” to controllers, the mention of Saw points to a high-level renaissance of survival horror. With the continued success of the films and the strength of the brands, the expectation is that the games will follow the same aesthetic and narrative care as the original works.
