The nightmare for PC builders in 2025 has reached a critical new level. What was once one of the most affordable components of a computer, RAM has undergone such aggressive inflation that it now exceeds the price of next-gen graphics cards.

Reports from mid-December indicate that prices, which had already risen by 250% in November, have surged another 25% to 50% in recent weeks. The situation has flipped market logic on its head: today, it is cheaper to buy a high-performance GPU than to equip your machine with a decent amount of memory.

Price Inversion: RTX 5070 vs. 64GB RAM

To illustrate the insanity of the current market, just look at the price tags. A new ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 can be found for $549.99. Its competitor, the ASRock Radeon RX 9070 XT, goes for $599.99.

In contrast, a 64GB Corsair Vengeance kit, essential for content creators and enthusiast gamers, jumped from $239 (in November) to an unbelievable $899.99 in December. Even a basic 16GB kit from Kingston, which used to cost around $60, now breaks the $240 barrier.

Blame it on AI (Again)

The root of the problem isn’t a shortage of raw materials, but a shift in priorities. Major manufacturers are shuttering their consumer-focused production lines (“budget brands”) to focus exclusively on the insatiable demand from Artificial Intelligence giants. With data centers paying premium prices for memory, the PC gamer has been left behind, forced to pay gold-standard prices for essential components.
