Twelve years after the original release of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games has finally answered the fans’ number one request. Michael de Santa, the retired crime mentor played by Ned Luke, is officially coming to GTA Online.
The revelation came through the announcement of the next major update, titled “GTA Online: A Safehouse in the Hills.” Unlike the previous appearances of Trevor and Franklin, this update moves the timeline forward, showcasing a noticeably older Michael, reflecting the decade that has passed since the main story’s events.
The Trio Is Complete
For years, Michael was the missing piece of the GTA Online puzzle. While Trevor Philips (Steven Ogg) spearheaded the Heists updates in the early years and Franklin Clinton (Shawn Fonteno) returned as a business mogul in The Contract update, Michael remained absent.
With Ned Luke back in the recording booth for the first time in over a decade, the update promises to focus on what Michael does best: luxury and high-stakes crisis management. The expansion will allow players to purchase staggering mansions in the Los Santos hills, suggesting Michael will act as the mentor for players seeking the pinnacle of the “Vinewood” lifestyle.
The End of an Era?
Many fans view this return as the “swan song” for GTA Online in the Los Santos era, serving as a final farewell to the original cast before full focus shifts to the franchise’s next title. It is also a way for Rockstar to finally deliver the Michael-focused content that was planned (and canceled) for the story mode years ago.
